"Great traditional well made Chinese dishes. Service is fast and courteous. Ambient is of the classic Chinese restaurant setting. Best location right in the middle of China Town."

"I dined at Westlake on a Wednesday night in late November 2025 with 7 former work colleagues. Unlike a number of reviewers here I found the service to be attentive and friendly, the food was hot and fresh an the general atmosphere of the restaurant very pleasant. I did not order the typical Aussie satay beef, beef in black bean sauce, sweet and sour prawns or yum cha for dinner, but chose cha siew, choy sum and rice. This arrived promptly with a bowl of broth. The choy sum was fresh and cooked properly maintaining its crispness; the cha siew was tender, lean and very tasty. I shared an enjoyable bottle of pinot gris with one of our party. Various extra requests that our table had were met with politeness, promptness and a smile. A good night out."

"Great food, been here for yum cha and the banquet menu. The staff were quick, playful and friendly. The range for the yumcha before 4pm is amazing and I would certainly be back for more. The pm service where we selected the banquet was so quick, the waiter even served our entrees and mains, the dishes were lovely, wontons, spring rolls, prawn crackers were all tasty. The highlight of the mains was the sweet and sour pork with was crispy yet tender, the fried rice was generous, the beef and chicken dishes were tasty enough also."

"The food is tasty. We liked the duck and the fresh veg with oyster sauce. And the chicken feet is huge They still use the old style push carts for food ordering. Service is prompt but polite. Can get pretty crowded over weekend lunch. Great place for an authentic dim sum meal."

"I think their service attitude is not bad. The price of food is basically the same as that of other yamcha stores. In terms of food, their forked pastry is really delicious. The best I have ever eaten .But their fried squid is really mediocre. It doesn't taste good. It's not recommended to order this dish. Everything else is OK."

"West Lake Restaurant, 189 Little Bourke St, Melbourne VIC 3000 It’s almost Lunar New Year, the Year of Horse It’s our transition to have yum cha during new year time This was a very nice yum cha experience with my family. The dim sums tasted like my home, Hong Kong. The most iconic thing is that they keep the tradition cart dim sums, which is hard to find these days in Hong Kong. My favourite dim sums have to be prawn Har Gow and Xiao Mai Hope you also enjoy yum cha as much as I do!"

"We were just passing through Chinatown when the delicious smell from this place caught our attention, so even though it was not in our plan, my family and I decided to give it a try, and it turned out to be such a great decision. The snow crab was so tasty, and a kind older lady helped us with cracking it and checked on us throughout the meal to make sure we had everything we needed. Her warm service made our dining experience absolutely perfect The mapo tofu and stir fried morning glory were also amazing. We will definitely come back to try more dishes next time."

"This is a Melbourne institution!!! Westlake has been serving up classic Chinese dishes for decades. The owner-chef still works everyday and is always there to make sure the dishes go out good. Every dish we had could not be faulted. Delicious and fresh. Their Signature Chicken was very very good!"
